KieranTimberlake launched BIM based Software for Life Cycle-Based Design Decisions

KieranTimberlake, the renowned architecture firm from Philadelphia , just introduced Tally™ that combines BIM models with authenticate life cycle data. KieranTimberlake is the developer of the application and he applied Autodesk’s Revit API to make bonding between BIM elements and a custom-designed LCA database.
Tally™ mingles material attributes, assembly details, and engineering and architectural specifications with environmental impact data for generating reports for the purpose of evaluating material selections by the designers.

Tally™, facilitates the customers to gauge the ecological impact of materials with embodied energy and global warming potential.

This newly launched BIM based software facilitates designers to quantify the ecological effect concerning the building materials straightforwardly in a Revit model.

"Tally™ performs significantly by providing Life Cycle Assessment into the design progression. The designers can reap the advantages as they don’t have to create an individual model for analysis. They will be able to interrelate with their models through a smooth and insightful interface. Tally™ brings LCA information to the design team facilitating them to take life cycle-based product decisions inside the same working environment efficiently while creating the building designs.

There will be live presentations of the software at Greenbuild 2013 in Philadelphia from November 19-22 as well as at the Materials and Human Health Summit at Greenbuild on 11/19. Besides, product demonstrations will be arranged at the Autodesk Booth on Wednesday, 11/20 from 1:30-2:30 pm, and Thursday, 11/21 from 3:00-4:00 pm.

BIM and benefits of owner

The owner should embrace BIM to reap the benefit of a well-organized and extremely coordinated method of project delivery. Project schedules are also curtailed and overall project costs is decreased.

A BIM model contains huge database of vital information and the owner can utilize these information for analysis and decision making. The database is repetitively updated and filtered during the life cycle of the model. Besides modification can be made at a single location in spite of how many times the data is presented or distributed. The recurrence of requesting, parsing, assembling and transmitting information among team members at the different arenas of a model’s life is significantly decreased or removed. This leads to improved communication between team members and more apt reply to owner concerns or suggestions.

BIM generates coordinated construction documents which can enhance the efficiency of the design and construction procedure. The owner can gain huge cost saving as the project scheduled is accelerated to a great extent.

The owner can apply BIM at pre-design phase and expand it during the design, bidding, construction, occupancy and finally decommissioning of the building.

BIM plays a key role in allocating data for analysis and simulation. BIM makes it possible to develop the amount and types of project analysis. This may vary from early investigation of building energy efficiency throughout conceptual massing, to structural/mechanical/electrical load analysis all through design, quantity take-offs throughout the project bidding, shop drawing review/fabrication all through construction, or even facility asset management throughout occupancy. The owner obtains more value by allocating different analyses to be executed with the transmission of data. This is applicable where numerous iterations of an analysis are replicated and purified at different phases of the BIM lifecycle.

Some exclusive benefits of owner:
• Owner gets the advantage of informed decision-making with the high-tech analysis of building systems, alternative materials, equipment, and technologies
• The owners get an idea about the estimation of the materials and the sequence of work.
• BIM delivers the best 'what if' situation and facilitates the owner to pick up the best one.
• Solve the constructability issues.
• Trim down contractor doubt facilitating a more precise cost representation and more reliable bids.
• Assist project team to build up a realistic and unified phasing plan.
• Minimize general project delivery time throughout the design stage in addition to the construction phase.
• Enhance overall accuracy of project documentation.
• Facilitate the analysis of sustainable design alternatives and cost comparisons.
• Generate perfect and well-timed information instantly available to team members at several locations, with the construction site.
• Makes the way to get better asset management.
• Presents a mechanism for improved building and equipment maintenance.

Ashrae is going to organize an exclusive conference on Energy Modeling in April, 2011

Ashrae will be going to arrange an conference on energy modeling at it's headquarter in Atlanta, GA. The conference will last for 3 days i.e April 4-6, 2011.

The participants will get the knowledge for utilizing the industry powerful energy modeling tools (the cost of energy modeling, energy modeling for a various building types, BIM and ntegrating building performance). The participants can also learn the utilization of energy models and computer simulations to create energy efficient & high performance buildings.

All the renowed energy modeling software companies will also demonstrate their products for 30 minutes.

Besides, U.S. Departmental of Energy is also takining part and will launch it's development roadmap for EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, EPGUI and other tools.

Ashrae will also arrange for Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) certification examination to assess, select, use, standardize and interpret the results of energy modeling software.

For participating in the conference one time registration fee of $500 ($450, ASHRAE, AIA and USGBC members) will be required.

To register, please visit www.ashrae.org/energymodeling
