Some useful AutoCAD shortcuts to accelerate your drawing time

In this article, you will be familiar with some useful AutoCAD tricks and shortcuts which can significantly reduce your drawing time.

CHSPACE: This shortcut is used to shift objects in a drawing from layout to model space with the selection of a viewport to move the text or objects into. It is applicable in both directions.

BURST: BURST shortcut can be applied to break out a block/object keeping all its attributes as it is.

NCOPY: Replicates linework or objects out of a nested object into your existing drawing. It is mostly beneficial for fetching XREF linework into existing drawings.

OOPS: OOPS shortcut can adjust your mistake (as long as it’s a delete) regardless how far back it was. Devoid of applying CTRL-Z, OOPS undoes your last erase command keeping all the works unchanged which have been completed since then.

Some exciting features of Revit 2020

In this article, detail information is given on some exciting features in Revit 2020.

1. NEW PATH OF TRAVEL TOOL: The new Path of Travel feature facilitates to choose a “start point” and an “end point”. Revit will then automatically work out the shortest path among the two points i.e. it now circumvents walls and attempt to locate doors.

2. IMPORT PDF TO REVIT: Visit the Insert tab in the ribbon to get a brand new Import PDF tool.

When the PDF includes vector lines, the Enable Snap feature can be applied to interact with the lines with tools like “pick lines”.

As soon as the snaps are enabled, the “pick walls” tool can be applied to employ the PDF as a reference to generate new walls and other model elements.

3. MAKE ELLIPTICAL WALLS: The elliptical wall feature is now directly incorporated with Revit.

4. EDIT SCOPE BOXES IN VIEW LIST: It is now possible to include the “Scope box” parameter in a “view list” schedule i.e. instantly assign scope boxes devoid of inputting a view manually. It is ideal for projects with a plenty of views. Ensure to add the “Scope Box” parameter in the fields of the view list.

New Features in AutoCAD 2020 - A Brief Overview

AutoCAD has released the new 2020 version recently. As in all versions, this also comes with some exciting new features! It also builds upon some of the existing features. Let us investigate further below.
There are four new major features in AutoCAD 2020. These are the following: Quick Measurement, Better DWG compare, Blocks palette and Better cloud workflow.
1. Quick Measurement Tool: The measure tool has been invaluable with any CAD user. For AutoCAD, this tool came fairly cumbersome before - you had to activate the tool with proper subselection, then click from point to point.

That remains the same, but now the default measurement tool is the new ‘Quick Measure’ which tells you the dimension of the nearest measurement to the cursor. It tracks distances along line segments, angles, distances between parallel lines and similar stuff. Very handy, as measure tools go! It is also the default tool for the MEASURE command now.
2. Improved DWG Comparisons: This tool was introduced last year to let users be aware of the exact changes made on local copies of the same drawing. It encircled and color coded each change as the user did them. This revisioning helps a ton in collaborating effects.

Now, the tool is even better and sharper! Now, you no need to make a new third drawing. All you have to do is to open any one of the drawing and point to the other drawing, and the current drawing will be updated with the color coded revision clouds. You can then either choose to save the changes or discard them. A handy new compare dwg toolbar will be visible while you do this.
3. Blocks Palette: Previously, the blocks workflow in AutoCAD was a bit complicated. You used to work with the insert dialog, the tool palette, and the design center. Previously, you had to browse for either an existing block from another file, or use the ready-made ones. And the design center was a place to kinda ‘steal’ blocks from other drawings.

BimRV & Visualize SDK from ODA

The OpenDesign Alliance, or more commonly known ODA, is bringing a lot of new stuff towards the users of Revit and similar tools. To begin with, they have changed the name of their existing BIM SDK while adding a whole lot of new features.
ODA is well on the way to produce a suite of new tools for BIM apps like Revit and others, which will include a whole new level of interoperability.
It begins at included support for IFC. Also, now you can combine files and use them in other applications like Autodesk Navisworks.
Interoperability for Revit is the primary focus of BimRV development. It will enable other programs to use Revit files like RVT and RFA files, which was not possible or easy before. Furthermore, ODA will conjure up the possibility of creating custom, non-hosted families from other programs and use them in Revit as well as in the parent program.
ODA’s dev director Sergey Vishnevetsky, they are now working further afield into their common data access API (CDA). This will revolutionize the accessibility of BIM model tree and object properties. That means, now ODA members can create sorts of ‘BIM viewer’ apps that will let you inspect model and object properties.
