Solibri unveils the version 6.2 of Solibri Model Checker

Solibri Inc, just unveils the version 6.2 of Solibri Model Checker. The new version contains some advanced features like expanded QA/QC Capabilities, enhanced productivity tools, new capabilities in BIM quality assurance, automated 3D selection box etc., for the Design and Construction Community.

The user will be able to check complex single design discipline models or combined multi-discipline models with a new level making model checking.

The model analysis process and workflow will be more improved with Automated 3D Selection Box as it can easily identify, Isolate, visualize, and communicate potential quality problems along with individual design issues early in the design phase.

Solibri Model Checker 6.2 models are not well-matched with older versions of SMC. Licenses for older version of SMC will have ability to work with the new version

Architectural Desing & BIM

A Building Information Model (BIM) generates vast information and visual communication channels all through the entire project life cycle from design through project completion and facilities management. The BIM connects architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems and components incorporated into virtual design and construction model shared by all project stakeholders.

The architectural BIM is built up utilizing software applications for instance Revit, Archicad, Tekla and should be compatible with Navisworks software for integration into a single model for viewing and clash detection.

The architectural BIM developed all through the construction documents phase of the design will consist of all architectural elements for example building exterior skin, interior walls, doors, ceilings, casework, full height framing studs, overhead ceiling and equipment supports and compression posts.

The conceptual and schematic BIM must contain basic elements of the building skin to communicate primary design concepts to the LACC user and campus groups excluding wall framing, overhead supports, casework or detailed door elements.

Newforma® going to organize a free weekly PIM webinar series focusing on BIM & Revit

Industry leading project information management (PIM) software company Newforma®, is going to organise a free weekly PIM webinar series, "Newforma WoW: Webinars on Wednesdays, commencing from March 23 at 12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Time (-4 GMT).

This webinar will focus on how the Newforma PIM solution facilitates the PIM challenges for AEC industries.

For registration purpose, please visit http://tinyurl.com/NewformaWoW-Registration.

The webinar will start on March 23, 2011 and continue till May 4, 2011. The details are given below.

March 23 - "Step One to digital photo management: the Project Images activity center" – In this webinar the discussion will focus on “the utilization of Newforma Project Images activity center to deal with the ever-expanding volume of digital site photos and project images alongwith tracing images in spite of their location in project folders.

March 30 - "Managing drawing revisions: the Newforma Document Control activity center" – In this webinar the attendees will come to know the application of the Newforma Document Control activity center to findout and control the flow of drawing and related document revisions. Besides, the attendees will also know how the design and construction quality is improved, risk and error-prone administrative tasks are eliminated with standardization revision management of record documents.

April 6 - "Managing the 'I' in BIM: the Newforma Add-in for Revit and space management" - This webinar will demonstrate how the Newforma Add-in for Autodesk Revit develops the investment value in Building Information Modeling with the inclusion of PIM capabilities into the Autodesk Revit suite. Besides the attendees will also know the process for connecting room and space planning spreadsheets with live Revit models enabling to perform asynchronously on a coordinated project room and space program; and swiftly edit room and space parameters from outside the design application.

April 13 - "Managing the 'I' in BIM: the Newforma Add-in for Revit and building element data management" – In this webinar the attendees will familiar with the alternative way to broaden the investment value of BIM through attaching building components like doors, curtain walls, equipment, HVAC or structural components across multiple models to the Building Information Management activity center in Newforma Project Center. Here the properties of building element can be added, customized, linked with concerned PIM processes and coordinated back to their relevant models.

April 20 - "Managing the 'I' in BIM: the Newforma Add-in for Revit and coordination of design changes" – This webinar will focus on how PIM processes for managing action items, markups, RFIs and punch lists being linked to Revit models and elements for executing BIM based projects more efficiently and in timely manner.

May 4 - "From discussion to action items: the Meeting Minutes activity center" – The attendees will come to know how the new Meeting Minutes activity center harmonizes with Microsoft Office Outlook to add value to meetings by tracking meeting commitments like action items, RFIs and other open project issues until resolution without disrupting current meeting scheduling practices.

May 11 - "PIM on the go: Access project data from smartphones, tablets and more" - This webinar will focus on how smartphones, iPads, Android tablets and laptops are being used by project team members to get connected with project information and processes at the same time as working remotely to get rid of unnecessary delays.

Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. and Francois Levy will be arranging a series of webinars on Building Information Modeling

Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. and Francois Levy, a renowned CAD/BIM consultant and trainer, will jointly arrange a series of webinars that will be held in three parts to highlight the importance of BIM (Building Information Modeling) for small- to medium-sized architecture firms.

The first part includes the advantages and best practices of applying Building Information Modeling in Architectural Design. It is scheduled to start on March 9 at 2:00 p.m. EST (7:00 p.m. GMT). All the participants will be entitled to have one American Institute of Architects (AIA) learning unit hour.

Mr. Levy will focus on some advanced strategies that can be applied by the designers for a successful transition to BIM. Mr. Levy will also provide some real-world examples from his own work on successful BIM projects.

The first part provides great benefits to the Design professionals as they will learn the primary technological benefits and opportunities of BIM towards a collaborative design approach. They can also know the benefits of architectural BIM modeling over basic 3D sketch modeling, presentation and visualization opportunities accessible in stand-alone BIM applications.

For registration purpose checks the link https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/998868355.

Part two will focus on "Processes & Procedures for Effective Development of BIM with Vectorworks Architect 2011 and will be started on April 5.

For registration purpose checks the link https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/729372587)

Part three will focus on "Data Mining & Quantitative Analysis in BIM for High-Performance Architecture with Vectorworks Architect 2011 and will be started on May 3.

Technology Helps the Process of BIM

BIM or Building Information Modeling is an integrated part of today’s world. It has become more and more powerful day by day with the advancement of technology. The continuous improvement helps the AEC industry to get success in various projects. The easy solution of the complex procedure is extracted by the new advance BIM technology.

BIM model in Software

But can we say BIM a technology? According to the definition it is called a process. Technology is only part of the process. It is critical to always be viewing the success of technology just as much by the people and processes you put around a solution as the solution itself. As the process of Building Information Modeling it is the software which always supports the process. In other words, you can invest in all the technology you can afford but if the people within your organization are not on board and the appropriate processes have not been established, then don’t expect to see the proper return on investment.

Team Work in BIM project

Apart from the support of the technology there are something else in this process. The asset to a successful BIM implementation is seasoned support staff that works with the BIM solution and has the profound knowledge of the category of building process the client wants to adopt. Many BIM solutions are flexible and require initial system set up to ensure a successful implementation in order to fix the identified issues. The initial set up will greatly reduce the timeline to a successful implementation. And that is not possible without the help of great stuff power. That’s why you can say that BIM is not a technology along, it is a technology integrated process
