Learn how to use the conceptual massing tools in Revit – An exclusive article by Michael Anonuevo

Conceptual massing tools in Revit are very useful but most of the Revit users did not even know how to use the toolset. The Revit users can obtain complicated forms out of the massing tools, which, when uploaded in a project, are transformed into building components.

With Revit’s conceptual massing tools, it becomes easier to visualize any design concept efficiently. Besides, various types of organic forms can also be developed easily.

Conceptual Massing Editor is used to generate massing forms outside the project environment. If the users want to create them inside the project, just select the In-Place Mass button (Massing & Site → Conceptual Mass → In-Place Mass). The procedure for developing mass in both locations is the same. Parameters (e.g., dimensions, visibility, materials, etc.) can also be allotted to mass components.

How to start a Loadable Mass Family
In order to start a mass family, the following methods should be followed:
From the Application button, New → Conceptual Mass
From the Recent files window, click the New Conceptual Mass link

In both methods, the New Conceptual Mass – Choose Template File dialog box pops up and click the Mass template situated within the Conceptual Mass folder. The view defaults to an orthographic Default 3D View demonstrate detectable dashed lines that symbolize reference planes (Front/Back and Left/Right) and a Level 1 work plane. The ribbon interface appears like the Family Editor interface, even if there exist some tools specific to massing.

Learn to use beam system command in Revit for generating model of nailers or beams

This Revit video tutorial briefly shows how to use beam system command in Revit for creating the model of nailers or beams.

With Beam System command, the users will be able to include numerous occurrences of framing members instantly. Besides, the users can easily draw various structural elements.

The users have to arrange it on work plane. By default, it is connected with your level (finish floor). Remembering it, it becomes possible to apply beam on slope and vertical surface, like uncovered rafter below the roof and purlins on the vertical panel.

To get started with beam system, there should be merely one accessible beam family (structural framing family) loaded to the project.
